Prelude and Minuet by Arcangelo Corelli contains two short movements that are quite contrasting in the setup. The Prelude is marked “Andante” in 3/4 containing primarily half notes and quarter notes, with occasional eighth notes. This movement is a clear example of performing with lyricism. The second movement, Minuet, is marked at Vivace with a 3/8 time signature. Filled with numerous sixteenth-note runs and arpeggios, this quick movement will challenge the soloist in maintaining a steady, consistent tempo without slowing down. This movement can be an excellent model of playing in a fast, waltz-like tempo and keeping a light feel throughout the movement.
