Written for Denis Wick, long-time principal trombonist of the London Symphony Orchestra, Gordon Jacob’s Concerto is an essential masterpiece in the trombone repertoire. Filled with technical acrobatic phrases, this classic three-movement concerto will demand a high level of endurance, range (both low and high), alongside a musical prowess for a successful performance. Centered around the keys of Bb and Eb, this concerto is very tonal in nature. Quick, articulated passages will force the soloist to have a strong sense of multiple tonguing. Mutes, trills, and clef changes are also used.
