This two-movement work is filled with Latin grooves that melodically sit well on the trombone. The lyrical first movement, “Bossa Nova,” soars through the upper register with running eighth-note passages. The second movement is similar with its lyrical features but contains shorter bursts of technical phrases with its dance-like movement through the music. Syncopation occurs at measure 127 as the tempo picks up the pace, with eighth notes accelerating to the remaining bars of intervallic leaps then descending to a fortissimo G2.
