Arranged for trombone, this Mozart Sonatina is very suitable for the soloist to play in the classical style without issues of range or endurance. The first movement is written in cut-time without long lengths of eighth-note runs. The second movement has the eighth note receiving the beat, therefore the slower tempo allows for a test in lyrical playing at a consistent speed. The third movement, written in A-B-A form, could be played in a slow waltz style. The “Trio” section in this movement is scored for Ab Major, so pay close attention to the key signature when playing the eighth notes in this short passage.
