This familiar aria by Bach is a wonderful introduction to playing in the middle register of the trombone. With its slow tempo and limited range, the soloist is able to focus on expression and lyrical playing. A mixture of quarter notes and eighth notes are primarily written in the solo, with two measures containing dotted-eighth/thirty-second notes. These rhythms should not deter the soloist as they are merely quick pick-up notes for the succeeding measure.
