Amethyst by Hale Ascher VanderCook

Amethyst can be a challenging solo that highlights successive sixteenth notes throughout the solo. With four different tempo changes, the soloist will have several opportunities to play quick rhythms with several accidentals throughout, all while maintaining consistent counting. Much of this solo is written in the staff, up to F4 with one G4 towards the end of the solo. The soloist will want to practice tonguing in the mid-to-high register since much of the solo contains one beat of sixteenth notes and one beat of eighth notes per measure. There are several rests between each section that allows for the soloist to have a break while the pianist transitions into each tempo marking.
